I have spent many years combing the southwest continually amazed by the geology, the people, the plants and wildlife that comprise this wonderful land called the, “American Southwest”. I am always inspired when I am there and am compelled, like so many others -- like David Muench, in the need to capture what I see as well as what I feel.
I am also in love with New England, including my native Maine. New England has so many interesting things to offer the enthusiastic photographer from the subtle shades of a leaf by a stream to rocky coasts exploding in a nor’easter. (Maine in it’s own way reminds me of the Southwest in it’s variety of people, plants, animals, geography and weather conditions). This year my wanderlust has taken me to Mexico City and the surrounding countryside including a visit to see the migrating Monarch butterflies and the people who stand sentry over them. I just returned from a visit to a wonderful place in southwest Colorado, Ouray (pronounced Youray I am told). I was fortunate enough to accompany Jim Steinberg, a leading landscape photographer for over 30 years, to this magical location for fall landscape imaging.
I am equally awed by close, intricate visions as I am by grand, sweeping landscapes. I am drawn to capturing patterns such as the natural patterns in rocks and their intimate relationship with lichen, moss and various other “tenants”. I love native vegetation and scour the countryside to capture examples of these, exquisite in their simplicity. As my travels continue I am planning returns in the spring to the American Southwest and the Pacific Northwest next summer. I am also planning expeditions to far off lands including Patagonia and the Galapagos. I invite you to see the world through my lens, relax, think good thoughts and wash away the stress and worry of everyday, contemporary life.
I owe my sustained intensity and passion to those who have been so influential to me from my childhood through the present starting with my mom, Marjorie Legge, who had such a zest for life and love of nature. Photographers that I admire are many with varying backgrounds. Here are but a few including Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Imogen Cunningham, Minor White, Jerry Uelsmann, John Paul Caponigro, Christopher Burkett, David Muench, Jack Dykinga, John Fielder, Joe Cornish and most recently Jim Steinberg. I will never forget the total professionalism of Jim Cline the best tour guide/photographer there is. I am also grateful to Ken Rockwell reviewer of all things photographic.
My goal is to express the passion of my craft, capture the glory of nature, and provide a superior archival, artistic product at affordable prices to my clients.
Thank you for visiting my site and all the best to you.
